WHAT IS THIS?
In 1993, I arrived in Austin from England and discovered KVRX - the university's student-run radio station. That led me to a world of punk clubs, zines, flyers, indie record stores, labels and - of course - bands.
There was no internet and people talked to each other.
In 2009, I asked Chepo Pena to help me make a film about all that.
We still haven't finished that film, so Greg Beets suggested we just start putting stuff out.
That's what this website is for.
This won't cover every damn band, zine, venue or record label.
We went to Emo's, Blue Flamingo, Cavity Club, Bates Motel, Hole In The Wall, Electric Lounge, Liberty Lunch, warehouses and co-op parties. And Sound Exchange.
